Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood High School Varsity Softball team rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Orange High School 8-6 to win its second consecutive Mid State 2A Conference Tournament title on Thursday night at Graham High School. Lauren Martin hid a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to win the game for the Lady Chargers after they had fell behind in the top of the seventh 6-3. Carrie Webster earned the win on the mound for the second consecutive night for the Lady Chargers.

Keeley Skinner led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and would later come around to score to cut the Lady Charger deficit to 6-4. Following Skinner's single, Lauren Oldham and Christa Surles reached base safely before Carrie Webster followed with a single. Padgett Harrington reached on a fielder's choice and then Kaitlyn Briggs walked to load the bases and set the stage for Martin. Martin responded by hitting the first pitch in her at bat out of the park for a walk off grand slam.

Keeley Skinner and Carrie Webster each had two hits for the Lady Chargers, Skinner a double and single, Webster two singles. The hero of the night Lauren Martin also had two hits, a double to go along with her grand slam home run. Christa Surles had the other Lady Charger hit a double in the first inning. Webster and Martin each scored two runs on the night.

The Lady Chargers begin the 2A State Playoffs on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Northwood High School when they host North Pitt High School. The Lady Chargers have home field advantage throughout the 2A playoffs all the way to the State Championships at Walnut Creek in Raleigh.
