Northwood JV boys defeat Carrboro 61-41

Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood JV boys basketball team used a 22 to 7 run in the second quarter en route to a 61-41 win over Carolina 9 Conference foe Carrboro at Northwood High School on Saturday afternoon January 23, 2010. Jacobi Harris was the catalyst in the decisive second quarter as he scored eight of his ten points for the game and dished out two of his team high five assists in the second quarter. Antonio Walker also sparked the second quarter run as he scored all five of his points in the second quarter and grabbed four of his team high 9 rebounds in the quarter.

For the game, Jamal Baines led the JV Chargers with 15 points to go along with six rebounds. Baines and Harris were the only two Chargers to score in double figures for the game. Mark Goods added 8 points, 6 rebounds, and two assists, while Charles Hope came off the bench to score seven points and collect four rebounds. Monte Smith provided a spark for the Chargers in the first quarter as he came off the bench to score all of his five points in the first quarter, to go along with his two assists for the game.

Davonte Machen and Chris Smith added a three pointer a piece for the Chargers, while Justin Crump, Adam Leviner, and Aumad Walker also scored for the JV Chargers on the afternoon. Crump also dished out two assists.

Northwood JV Girls

The JV Girls Basketball team ran past River Mill Friday night January 22, 2010, 73-18. The team played well defensively which resulted in numerous River Mill turnovers throughout the game. All players saw significant playing time and all but two players scored in the game. Alexis Brower led the team with 11 points.

The JV Girls Basketball team went on a 23 to 7 run over the course of the second quarter Saturday afternoon January 23, 2010 en route to building a 32-10 halftime lead in their 49-27 win over Carolina 9 Conference rival Carrboro. Alexis Brower scored 15 of her 22 points in the decisive second quarter. Brower also collected 3 steals and dished out 2 assists. Gabby Mehringer added 9 points to go along with a team high 4 assists, 3 steals, and a team high 7 rebounds. Dionna Bright came off the bench to score 6 points, collect three steals, and six rebounds, while Tykeisha Alston added a team high 5 steals and 6 rebounds. Maria Vandeford chipped in five points, tied for team high with five steals, and dished out two assists as well.
