Northwood varsity boys and girls defeat DSA in basketball

Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood varsity boys basketball team built a 37-20 halftime lead after two three-pointers by Ridge Smith and one by Ryan Epps late in the second quarter en route to a 68-38 victory over Carolina 9 Conference rival DSA Tuesday night January 26, at Northwood High School. Juan Young led the Chargers with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals in the first of three conference games in three days for the Charger basketball teams.

Three other Chargers scored in double figures as Ridge Smith poured in 14 points, A.J.Farmer added 12 points which included several electrifying slam dunks, and Ryan Epps came off the bench to score 10 points. Farmer had a double double on the night as he grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with his 12 points. Senior Harold Baldwin tied with Juan Young for the team high in assists with 4, while Tra Chandler, Ridge Smith, and Ryan Epps had three assists a piece. Dylan Davis and Tra Chandler each scored 6 points a piece off the bench for the Chargers. Defensively, Juan Young led the team in steals with 4 while A.J. Farmer dominated defensively in the paint.

Aaron Maye led the Bulldogs with 13 points while Xavier Hoggs added 10 for DSA.

Northwood Varsity Girls

Shelby Wolfe scored 17 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and collected a team high 4 steals as the Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated DSA Tuesday, January 26, 2010, 52-17 at Northwood High School in Carolina 9 Conference action. Olivia Oakley also scored in double figures as she scored 12 points and grabbed a team high 8 rebounds. Senior point guard Casey Norris scored 8 points and dished out a team high 5 assists to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Brianna Greene came off the bench to score 6 points for the Lady Chargers. Kerri Snipes, Yancy Luft, Annie Cleaver, and Brennan Allan also scored for the Lady Chargers.

DSA leading scorer Alisha Blue scored all of her seven points in the second half for the Lady Bulldogs.
