Northwood varsity boys advance to second round with 67-57 win over Franklinton

Pittsboro, NC - Juan Young had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with five assists and a team high five steals as the varsity boys basketball team began what it hopes is a repeat run to the 2A State Championship game with a 67-57 victory over Franklinton at Northwood High School Monday night.

John Wieland led the Chargers in scoring on the night with 15 points, including two, three-pointers. Ridge Smith added 14 points, 11 in the first half to go along with five rebounds. A.J. Farmer also added 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and a team high four blocked shots. Harold Baldwin led the Chargers on the night with six assists.

Tra Chandler came off the bench to score six points on two, three-pointers, including a three pointer at the end of the third quarter that halted a Red Rams rally at the end of the quarter.

The Varsity Boys advance to the second round of the 2A State Playoffs to face Providence Grove from Randolph County at Providence Grove Wednesday night.
