Climax, NC - A.J. Farmer collected his second interception of the night with under 2 minutes remaining to seal a 19-14 victory for the Chargers at Providence Grove High School in Randolph County on Friday night September 18. Both teams entered the contest at 4-0.

After falling behind 7-0, the Chargers rallied on a methodical drive which included 5 carries for 23 yards by Shane Peppers, and two completions from Sam Griffin to Austin Matthews, the last covering 18 yards on 4th and 2 for the touchdown on which Matthews bowled over several Patriot defenders to reach the end zone. Following Josue Pena's PAT the game was tied at 7.

After a nice pass break up by Ryan Seymour on the Patriots ensuing possession, and an unsuccessful Charger offensive series, Terrance Gordon recovered a Patriot fumble deep in Patriot territory that the Chargers quickly took to paydirt. After a 9 yard run by Peppers on first down, Griffin connected with Ridge Smith for a 14 yard touchdown strike that gave the Chargers a 14-7 lead following Josue Pena's PAT.

After a kickoff return for a touchdown immediately following the Chargers' touchdown which tied the game at 14, the Chargers' defense dominated and held the Patriots' offense scoreless the rest of the night. Tackles for losses were turned in by: Donyea Rhodes, Ryan Seymour, Dylan Davis, Makalyn Simmons, Terrance Gordon, Forrest Rhyne, Jamal Baines, Paul Shackelford, and Blaine Ryan. The last two, by Shackelford and Blaine Ryan, stopped a Patriots' drive deep in Chargers' territory late in the 4th quarter. Quarterback sacks were credited to: Makalyn Simmons, Donyea Rhodes, and Blaine Ryan. Brandon Saurine and Brendan Dibernard also made outstanding plays on a fake punt by the Patriots early in the fourth quarter.

The only scoring of the second half came on a safety by the Chargers when the Patriots' snap for a punt sailed out of the end zone, and on a 34 yard field goal by Chargers' kicker Josue Pena late in the 3rd quarter.

The Chargers improved to 5-0 on the season with a home date this Friday night at NHS at 7:30 versus Triton High from Harnett County.
