Northwood routs Orange to advance and play Cedar Ridge at Graham

Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood High School Chargers defeated the Orange High School Panthers, 57-43, on Tuesday night in a home basketball game that was not nearly as close as the final score indicated. With the win, the boys advance to face Cedar Ridge at Graham Thursday night at 7:30 in the second round of the Mid State 2A Conference Tournament.

Jake Houck, Ridge Smith, and AJ Farmer combined to score all 22 Charger points in the first quarter as the Chargers raced to an early double digit lead. After a run to start the second half, the Charger lead grew to 20 and the Chargers cruised to victory from there, never letting the Orange Panthers get closer than 13 points the rest of the way as everyone played in the game.

AJ Farmer led all scorers with 18 points, tied for a team high with 8 rebounds along with Harold Baldwin, and had three steals. Ridge Smith scored 13 points to go along with a team high 7 assists. Jake Houck added 12 points including 2 3 pointers. Excellent all around games were turned in by Harold Baldwin, Terrance Hackney, and Juan Young. Baldwin scored 9 points including 6 of 6 from the foul line to go along with his 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and two assists. Hackney had 5 rebounds, 5 blocked shots, and 4 steals to go along with his 2 points. Young scored 2 points, collected 2 rebounds and 2 steals on the night. Cameron Goodwin was the only other Charger to score on the evening.
