Durham, N.C. – The Duke field hockey team is ranked fourth in the first 2005 STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, released by the coaches association Tuesday. The Blue Devils are 4-1 in the 2005 campaign, having won each of their first two tournaments -- Louisville’s Champion’s Tournament and Delaware’s Blue Hen Classic -- and suffering their first loss last weekend.

All of Duke’s first five opponents are ranked in the top 20. Louisville, now standing at No. 14, gave up its only loss of the season to the Blue Devils Aug. 27 in a 7-0 shutout. No. 6 Michigan State lost the title game of the Champion’s Tournament to Duke in another shutout, (3-0) Aug. 28. No. 19 Delaware fell to Duke, 7-2, in the first game of the Blue Hen Classic Sept. 3, while No. 17 Ohio State gave up a 3-1 decision to the Blue Devils in the championship game Sept. 4. Wake Forest, the top-ranked team, is the only team that has edged Duke this season, as the Demon Deacons won 2-1 in Durham Saturday.

Duke hosts two games at Williams Field this weekend against top ten teams. Old Dominion (3-3) is ranked ninth, while Iowa (5-2) stands at No. 10. The Blue Devils face off against Iowa at 1 p.m. Saturday and Old Dominion at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
