Why are the Chatham County Commissioners afraid to listen to residents?

Pittsboro, NC - Below is an email I sent to the county commissioners and planning board members following the March 16th County Commissioner meeting. I sure hope the commissioners re-schedule the public hearings that they had cancelled.

Dear Chatham County Commissioners and Planning Board Members,

I recently attended and spoke during the Public Comment period at the March 16 County Commissioner's meeting. I am writing to follow-up on my comments.

As you know, in politics and in government rumors flourish, however when you hear things from so many different groups and individuals, you have to think that there must be some truth to these stories.

The word on the street is that several members of the Planning Board want to see county-wide zoning, specifically George Lucier and Jim Elza. These individuals seem to be pushing their personal agenda quite vigorously.

The word on the street also is that there are activists who want to get countywide zoning decided before the 2016 election campaign season so candidates up for re-election will not have to deal with this issue.

This unfortunately sounds like county-wide zoning is becoming a political issue.

The recordings and minutes of the March 16, 2015 County Commissioners meeting/public comments reflect the community's plea to slow down, to meet with citizens across the county, and take time to learn what our citizens seek as to their freedom and personal property rights.

I sincerely hope that the county does not hire an expensive consultant to study this issue before first meeting with the citizens. Please learn from them before you make up your minds. Our county is composed of so many wonderful, diverse, earnest, hardworking and generous people. They deserve to be heard.
