Citizens of Chatham County,

My name is Holly Duncan and I am running for the District Two seat on the Board of Education. I have taught in the NC school system for nearly 4 years and over 2 years were spent in the Chatham County School System at Pittsboro Elementary School. As an educator and a former Chatham County teacher, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges facing our educators and believe that I can help improve our school system.

My top priorities are:
. I will encourage all Board of Education meetings to be recorded so detailed minutes can be made available to the public on the county website. Parent Teacher Advisory committees should be maintained to ensure assistance and suggestions on how to improve our schools.

. I will work for regular performance audits of the Chatham County School System. Routine performance audits will reduce wasteful spending by identifying non-performing entities.

. Long range planning is vital to the success of the Chatham County school system. Chatham County is expected to grow 43% over the next 15 years according to the NC Office of State Planning. New schools should be built to account for future growth so that the schools are not at capacity when they open.

. Our current turnover rate is 16% and many experienced teachers are eligible to retire over the next few years. I will strive to recruit and retain culturally diverse, highly qualified teachers by increasing the teacher supplement and emphasizing the benefits of teaching in Chatham County.

With your vote, we can begin the process of rebuilding a sense of pride in all of our schools. Working together, we can draw upon the collective talents of parents, teachers, students and professionals that are ready, willing and able to assist in making our schools live up to the standards that we all seek. Providing a quality education is so important and I have an insight that no other candidate running for this office has... I am a teacher.

So on July 20th, I ask for your vote to "Put and EDUCATOR on the Board of EDUCATION". I thank you and look forward to working with the entire community as we work to make Chatham County Schools the best in the state.

Thanks Again,

Holly Duncan
