Pittsboro, NC - Here's a roundup of what happened in sports at Northwood High School this week.

Volleyball falls, varsity soccer wins Monday 10/5/09

The Lady Chargers JV and Varsity Volleyball teams each lost in straight sets at East Chapel Hill on Monday evening 10/5/09.

The Varsity Soccer team defeated Granville Central at GCHS Monday evening 9-1 in Carolina 9 Conference play.


The Northwood Cross Country team defeated Chatham Central
Friday 10/2 in a cross-country meet at Chatham Central High School

The Charger men captured second through sixth place in individual times. Richard Torbert led the Chargers finishing in second place. After Torbert, Eric Williams, Kurt Clark, Tyler Klund, Forrest Glosson, Sam Williams and Russell Smith finished as the top seven runners for the Chargers.

The Lady Chargers scored a perfect score, as Julia Sloane, Maria Vanderford, Kerri Snipes, Brittany Porterfield, Yancey Luft, Allison Gould, and Kaitlyn Mattice were the top seven Lady Charger runners in the race.

Women's tennis loses to NCSSM 7-2 Wed. 9/30/09

The Lady Chargers Womens Tennis team lost a tough match to the North Carolina School of Science and Math on Wednesday 7 to 2 here at Northwood High School. Winners for the Lady Chargers included Claire Pauley and the doubles team of Claire Pauley and Catherine Shachtman. Pauley and Shachtman remain undefeated in doubles play for the season as
they improved to 9-0 on the season.

They advance to 9-0

Northwood JV Football Falls to Southern Vance

The JV Football team fell to a tough Southern Vance squad last Thursday night 36-0 here at Northwood. The JV Chargers only trailed 8-0 late in the first half with possession of the football deep in Raiders' territory. However, following a costly turnover, the Raiders scored on a long touchdown run in the final two minutes of the second quarter to extend their lead to 14-0 at the half.

The JV Football team has a bye week this week.
