Northwood girls advance to play Graham tonight

Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood High School Varsity Girls Basketball team hung on to defeat Cardinal Gibbons last night 43-38 in the first round of the Mid State 2A Conference Tournament.

Casey Norris led the Lady Chargers with 17 points, while Rashmi Vanhook also scored in double figures with 10 points. Vanhook also led the team with eigth rebounds, while Olivia Oakley grabbed seven rebounds to go along with her four points and two blocked shots. Sam Perry came off the bench and collected six rebounds of her own and scored two points.

Shelby Wolfe and Annie Clever also played extensively and contributed nice all around games. Wolfe scored 4 points, collected 4 rebounds, dished out a team high two assists, and had one steal. Casey Norris led the team in steals with 3.

The Lady Chargers advance to the second round of the conference tournament to face Graham at Graham tonight at 6. The Lady Chargers defeated the Lady Red Devils in their last meeting after the Lady Red Devils entered the game previously unbeaten in the conference and 18-1 overall.

If the Lady Chargers win tonight they will advance to Friday night's conference championship.
