Northwood boys advance to the third round of the state basketball playoffs

Providence Grove, NC - The Northwood High School varsity boys basketball team continued its success in the 2A State Playoffs with a 69-64 come from behind win in the final minute over Providence Grove Wednesday night at Providence Grove.

Tre Chandler hit three-three pointers in the fourth quarter for nine of his 11 points on the night which provided a much needed spark for the Chargers in the win. Juan Young rebounded his missed free throw and converted a put back to give the Chargers the lead for good with under a minute remaining after he tied the score on his first free throw attempt.

For the game, Young chipped in 15 points, while John Wieland continued his hot shooting of late with 13 points. A.J. Farmer led the Chargers with 20 points including five slam dunks throughout the night.

With the win, the Chargers advance to the third round where they will travel to Fairmont Friday night at 7.
