Pittbsoro, NC - The Northwood varsity football team improved to 6-0 Friday night with a come from behind 22-15 win over 3A Triton High School from Harnett County here at Northwood High School. The Chargers trailed 15-0 in the third quarter until Sam Griffin connected on a 73 yard touchdown pass to Shane Peppers to cut the lead to 15-8 following the two point conversion pass to Harold Baldwin.

After two defensive stands by the Charger defense, the Charger offense went to work again, led by the running of Shane Peppers who ran for 61 yards on six carries on the drive, including a two yard touchdown that cut the lead to 15-14 with just over four minutes remaining.

After Forrest Rhyne recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff at the Hawks' 32, 4 straight carries by Peppers for 13 yards were followed by an 19 yard touchdown pass from Sam Griffin to A.J. Farmer on third and eight to give the Chargers the lead for good at 20-15. Griffin connected with Austin Matthews on the two point conversion pass to give the Chargers
the 22-15 victory.

The Charger defense again closed out the night as it has in previous weeks with an outstanding defensive stand. Following a nice combo tackle by Dylan Davis and Ridge Smith on first and goal after the Hawks drove to the Charger 11, Shane Peppers recorded a tackle for a loss on second down, and quarterback sacks on third and fourth downs to seal the victory for the Chargers. Donyea Rhodes and Tevin Page also had quarterback sacks on the night while Ryan Seymour and A.J. Farmer each deflected at least one Hawk pass on the night.

The Chargers travel to Southern Vance this Friday night as they look to improve to 7-0 on the season. The JVs host Southern Vance Thursday at 7 here at NHS.
