Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood football team made school history when they advanced to the third round of the NCHSAA football playoffs with a 40-21 2-AA win over Ledford. Ledford saw its season end at 7-6.
Tobais Palmer led Northwood's offense. He scored on a 75-yard kickoff return and on runs of 45, 3, 4 and 56 yards. He responded to Ledford's first touchdown of the night with a 70-yard kickoff return for a score.
He led Northwood's 326-yard rushing effort with 187 yards. His cousin, Bernard Palmer, ran for 114 yards and had a touchdown later in the second quarter. Josh Edwards added a 1-yard touchdown plunge to push the halftime lead to 27-14.
Defensively, Scott Kelly intercepted two passes and defensive lineman Josh Edwards, who set the school's sack record last season with 26, had his 31st sack of the season.
The Chargers come in with a 4-1 record in the Mid-State Conference, 7-5 overall, and their only league loss was to Burlington Cummings, the top-ranked 2-A team in the state.
Northwood (8-5) will play Southern Vance on Friday.
