Pittsboro, NC - The varsity football team rolled to a 53-8 Carolina 9 Conference win over Granville Central at Northwood High School on Homecoming Friday night. The Chargers amassed a 53-0 halftime lead, a lead that had grown from 33-0 after the first quarter.

Brandon Saurine got the ball rolling for the Chargers when he returned the opening kickoff 26 yards to the Panthers' 44 yard line. On the next play, quarterback Sam Griffin connected with A.J. Farmer deep down the left sideline on a 44 yard touchdown pass that set the stage for the Chargers' offensive onslaught in the first quarter and half. Josue Pena connected on the extra point to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead.

Following three tackles for losses by Makalyn Simmons and one by Terrance Gordon on the Panthers' first drive, Shane Peppers rushed untouched into the end zone from 6 yards out following carries of 18 and 5 yards to extend the Charger lead to 14-0 following Pena's PAT.

Peppers added a one yard touchdown run following the Chargers' recovery of an onside kick, and Peppers followed this touchdown with his third of the first quarter, a 22 yard touchdown reception from Sam Griffin to give the Chargers a 27-0 lead. Following a Tra Chandler interception which he returned to the Granville Central 35 yard line, Peppers scored his 4th touchdown of the first quarter on a 35 yard run that closed out the first quarter scoring at 33-0.

The Chargers picked up where they left off in the first quarter with continued strong defensive play and lightning quick scoring. Following tackles for losses by Blaine Rhyne, Dylan Davis, and Brandon Saurine, Griffin connected with Ridge Smith in the left corner of the end zone from 11 yards out to expand the Chargers' lead to 40-0. The rest of the first half scoring was the result of two touchdown passes from Sam Griffin to senior wide out Harold Baldwin, via touchdown completions of 6 and 19 yards, the last touchdown coming after a fumble recovery by Tevin Page, which gave the Chargers a 53-0 halftime lead.
