[Jun. 3, 2006] Brandon Phelps ripped a bases-loaded triple that helped key a five-run explosion in the sixth inning, leading Jamestown Ragsdale to a 7-2 victory over Greenville D.H. Conley in the first game of the North Carolina 3-A baseball championship series.

North Lenoir rolls to easy vistory over Forbush in 2-A opener
[Jun. 3, 2006] Defending champion North Lenoir took command early and rolled past East Bend Forbush 13-1 on Friday in the first game of the state 2-A baseball championship series at First Horizon Park.

Chatham Central and West Columbus baseball game suspended due to rain and lightning
[Jun. 2, 2006] When lightning hit the stadium Friday night and knocked out power at NCSU's Doak Field, that marked the end of play in the first game of the state 1-A baseball championship series. The game was suspended with one out in the top of the fifth during a second rain delay. Chatham Central was leading West Columbus by a score of 8-6 in the first game of the best-of-three series.

Chatham Central faces West Columbus in NC 1-A baseball championship
[May 31, 2006] The 2006 1-A NC baseball championship series pits Chatham Central (25-6) against West Columbus (27-2) on Friday. Chatham Central was the 1-A runner-up a year ago to Farmville Central and has two previous state baseball crowns while West Columbus is enjoying its first visit to the finals in 36 years.

Chatham Central Bears to play in state baseball championship
[May 30, 2006] The schedules have been set for the 90th annual edition of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's state baseball championship series. The Chatham Central Bears (25-6) are scheduled to begin play against Raleigh West Columbus on Friday, June 2nd at 5 p.m.

JM's Craig Wood takes second place in state golf championships
[May 17, 2006] Johnson York of East Surry took medalist honors and led his team to the team championship on Tuesday in the ninth annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A men's golf championship at the Siler City Country Club. York had rounds of 70 and 77 for a 147 total, and the three-over par mark was good for a one-shot edge over Craig Wood of Siler City Jordan-Matthews.

[May 8, 2006] First round games of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 2006 Women's Soccer Championships will take place on May 10. Siler City's Jordan-Matthews women's soccer team (6-4-2) will play at South Iredell (9-6-2). Pittsboro's Northwood women's soccer team (12-7-3) will play at Southern Guilford (12-2-4) . Forest Hills (13-6) will play at Chatham Central (11-5).

[Apr. 27, 2006] On Wednesday, April 19th, Spencer Andrews, a senior at Chatham Central High School, signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at High Point University in High Point, North Carolina.

NCHSAA basketball championship schedule
[Mar. 5, 2006] The NCHSAA's 92nd annual men's basketball championships and the 35th annual women's basketball championships will be held on March 11th. The championship games will be played at the Dean Smith Center at UNC in Chapel Hill and at Reynolds Coliseum at NC State in Raleigh.

[Feb. 26, 2006] The North Carolina High School Athletic Association's regional basketball tournaments will get underway this week as the state's prep teams continue the road toward the state championships.

Chapel Hill defeats Northwood, 55-44
[Jan. 5, 2006] The Chapel Hill High School Tigers defeated the Northwood Chargers in basketball on Wednesday, 55-44. The top Northwood scorer was Zach O'Dell with 14 points.

Yadkin Valley all-conference athletes named
[Dec. 17, 2005] The Yadkin Valley 1A Conference has named its all-conference athletes for the 2005 fall sports season. Chatham Central High School and Jordan-Matthews High School are members of the conference in addition to East Montgomery, North Moore, South Davidson, Thomasville, and West Montgomery high schools.

Mid-State all-conference athletes named
[Dec. 16, 2005] The Mid-State conference has named its all-conference athletes in fall sports for 2005. The high school conference consists of Cardinal Gibbons, Cedar Ridge, Durham School of the Arts, Graham, Northwood, Orange, and Raleigh Charter. Northwood High School had multiple student athletes who earned honors in six different sports.
