[Dec. 11, 2005] The Independence Patriots beat the New Bern Bears 38-to-19 in the Class 4AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship on Saturday in Carter-Finley Stadium at North Carolina State University.

[Dec. 11, 2005] Maurice Weaver ran for 107 yards and a touchdown and Jonathan Williams ran for 94 yards and scored the game's first and last touchdowns to lead the Greenville Rose Rampants past the Greensboro Grimsley Whirlies 21-0 in the 4A North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship at N.C. State University's Carter-Finley Stadium.

[Dec. 3, 2005] After Friday night's playoff games the field is set for the 92nd annual NCHSAA/BB&T State football championships to be held on December 10th.

[Dec. 2, 2005] Friday morning Crest school leaders reported the team had used an ineligible player. The announcement forced the cancellation of the semi-final 4-A playoff game.

[Nov. 17, 2005] Carolina High School Athletic Association's state men's soccer championships games will be played at the SAS Stadium in Cary. The 1-A game at 1 p.m. pits the Bulldogs of Thomasville (16-5-2) against Manteo (19-2-3). Thomasville knocked off defending state 1-A champ Siler City Jordan-Matthews in sudden death overtime in the state quarterfinals.

[Nov. 12, 2005] The No. 7 seed Northwood Chargers beat No. 10 Warren County 35-20 on Friday night in the first round of the state 2-AA playoffs. Tobias Palmer scored with a 3-yard run with 3:56 left in the first quarter. Warren County quarterback Victor Hunt answered with a 1-yard run to pull the Eagles (6-5) to within a point. Palmer responded with scoring runs of 27 and 8 yards to give Northwood a 21-6 halftime lead.

Chatham football teams start playoffs at homeChatham football teams start playoffs at home
[Nov. 6, 2005] Chatham Central (5-5) was given a No. 6 seed in the 1-A West bracket and will host 11th-seeded Robbinsville (3-7) in the first home state football tournament game in Chatham Central history. Northwood (7-3) was given a No. 7 seed in the 2-AA East bracket and will host No. 10 Warren County (6-4) while Jordan Matthews (6-4), as a No. 8 seed, will host former conference rival Albemarle (6-4), which was granted a No. 9 seed in the 1-AA West tournament.

[Nov. 5, 2005] Tobias Palmer of Northwood High School had an early 72-yard scoring run and ran up a total of 200 yards in the Mid-State 2-A victory. Northwood led Gardinal Gibbons 20-1 at the half.

[Oct. 26, 2005] Individual champions will be crowned this weekend as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association holds its annual women's tennis championships. Jordan Matthews' Jennifer Domeron and Molly Parks will be competing in the doubles category.

[Sep. 3, 2005] Quarterback Dean Hatami threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Justin Beau with 1:07 remaining to rally Northwood past Jordan-Matthews. Northwood started its game-winning drive on its own 30. Hatami was 4-for-5 for 58 yards on the seven-play drive and also had a 12-yard run. He found Tim Courtney for his first three completions on the drive before hooking up with Beau for the score.

[Aug. 27, 2005] The Chatham Central Bears overcame numerous mistakes to beat North Duplin 12-6 in Friday night's football game. Chatham Central fumbled three times inside the Rebels' 5-yard line in the first half. Chatham Central took the lead when Andrews hooked up with Kyle Scott for a 12-yard touchdown pass. The Bears held North Duplin to nine yards of total offense in the first half, but they only managed to go into halftime ahead just 6-0.
