Forbush evens series with win over North Lenoir, 11-5

Greensboro, NC - East Bend Forbush rebounded from a crushing Friday night loss and beat defending champion North Lenoir 11-5 on Saturday to even the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A baseball championship at First Horizon Park.

Forbush had lost the opener by 13-1 but came back strong, exploding for seven runs in the top of the seventh and keeping the Hawks at bay.

Corey Newman, the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2006, went the distance on the mound for Forbush to improve his record to 11-0, allowing three earned runs. Brandon Sutton (10-2) got the loss.

Forbush banged out five doubles in the big second inning en route to its seven runs. Daniel Davis had a triple and a double and Drew Willard a pair of two-baggers for the winners, who chased North Lenoir's Brandon Sutton in the second.

North is now 29-3, while Forbush improved its record to 28-5. .
