Pittsboro, NC - Attention Chatham County! Northwood High School's 2005 Football Season has be-gun! Veteran Head Coach Bill Hall is excited and optimistic going into the new season.

Coach Hall, how does it look this year?
"We have a great bunch of kids. A good base of experience-very well disciplined-solid talent."

Any cause for worry?
"We are still looking for leadership. Nobody has stepped up yet. That can make the differ-ence between a great season and a good one. Leadership gets you through tight games.

Who do you think might step up?
"Our Senior running back is Kenny Allen, our Senior receiver is Zach O'Dell - and the guys will always look to the quarterback for leadership - Dean Hatami. But our most disciplined guy is the keystone to our O-Line. He really worked the hardest this summer-Clayton Kidd."

Those are all offense guys. What about the defense?
Defense gets ours kids excited. Everyone wants to the baddest hitter. Josh Edwards is our silent leader. Pre-season All-State, this guy can do whatever he wants on the field. At times in practice he is unstoppable. He will most likely lead the team statistically this year. Quentain Bradley is our most experienced Linebacker-this is his third year-but he is an-other quiet guy.

You mentioned tough games...are you ex-pecting a tough season?
We will have no easy games this year. None. Every one of them will be a test for us. They all have a tradition of winning, making state playoffs, and staying high in the state rankings. We are starting that tradi-tion here at Northwood...but some of the teams we are playing are dynasties.

Tell us a little about your offense:
We'll be running a basic I-formation, with a mix of Power-I. I need to mix it up more this year...the ball has to get in the receivers' hands.

And defensively?
My Defensive Coordinator has a lot of ex-perience - (Brian Harrington) he'll run what-ever he needs to for the team that we play that week. The kids will be well prepared.

And "Ahem"...Special Teams?
I wish you would find someone to catch a punt!

With that Coach Hall looked at me, smiled, dug into his sock for some Chapstick, and turned to yell at some players for walking on the field. This interview was over.
