Junior kicker will miss remainder of 2004 season

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest junior kicker Matt Wisnosky will miss the remainder of the 2004 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, head coach Jim Grobe announced on Wednesday.

This season, Wisnosky was 5-for-8 on field goals with a long of 43 yards and a perfect 17-of-17 on extra points. The native of Moorestown, N.J., has converted 64 percent of his career field goal attempts (25-of-39) and 94 percent of extra points (50-of-53) including 26 in a row.

Wisnosky suffered the injury while making a tackle on the opening kickoff in Saturday's loss to Virginia Tech. In Wisnosky's absence, Wake Forest's placekicking duties fell on the shoulders of junior All-ACC punter Ryan Plackemeier.

Plackemeier has past experience as the Deacon placekicker. He handled the placekicking duties during the first half of last season, going 5-for-7 on field goals with a long of 43 before Wisnosky re-claimed the responsibilities.

Wisnosky will have his knee surgerically repaired and will undergo rehabilitation and is expected to return at 100 percent next fall.
