Raleigh, NC - A white-out in September? That's what NC State's students are hoping to do at next Thursday's 2009 football season opener against South Carolina at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Student leaders are encouraging their fellow students to wear white for the game against the Gamecocks, which will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN. In fact, every student entering the game will receive a free "Beat Carolina" white T-shirt, as a gift from Time-Warner Cable.
The rest of the sell-out crowd is encouraged to wear its traditional red garb for the game, creating a stark contrast of colors for the national television audience. Fans can purchase a special red T-shirt from the NC State Bookstores stadium vendors, while supplies last.
They will be available for $5 at locations near Gate 7, on the West Concourse by the wolf statue and at the North stadium entrance under the scoreboard.
Finally, all students will receive a free "Beat Carolina" red towel and all other fans in the lower level will receive a free "Beat Carolina" white towel to wave during the game.
"Like the card stunt we did last year during the Florida State game, this will help us generate some excitement in the stadium for the game," said NC State assistant athletics director for marketing Chris Alston. "It will also enhance our fans' visibility in front of a national audience."
The towels are sponsored by www.TheRoadToTampaBay.com, which promotes the Dec. 5 ACC Championship game in Tampa, Fla.
