RALEIGH, N.C. – Andre Brown scored three touchdowns, freshman linebacker Thomas Barnes scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery on the third play of his collegiate career and placekicker Steven Hauschka kicked a 49-yard field goal as NC State rolled over Wofford Saturday evening at Carter-Finley Stadium.
First-year head coach Tom O'Brien's first career win for the Wolfpack came in front of 56,039 spectators at Carter-Finley Stadium and ended the Wolfpack's nine-game losing streak, the longest in football since 1959.
Coach Tom O'Brien post game comments -
"We're obviously happy to get a victory. I don't even know if they knew how to celebrate once we got in the locker room."
"I thought our defense played exceptionally well for the speed at which the game unfolded. You can't simulate that speed."
"Offensively we did enough. We created some turnovers and took advantage and scored when we got short-field opportunities."
"They just kind of cheered each other... we sang the alma mater on the field. We've got to put the words on the scoreboard so we can learn them. So we can sing them there."
"I think we came out and did what we had to do."
"We played from ahead most of the day."
"I think he was okay. I don't know if we asked him to do a lot either today. I think he did fine."
"We lost two guys with ankles... maybe LeRue could have played... we put him back in there at the start of the second half and I watched the first couple of plays. He was tentative."
"We practiced a couple of guys that fit into the defense that we thought would be able to play this type of offense and [Thomas Barnes] was one of them. He had a heckuva game. He played a lot of snaps, and I think he did a pretty good job."
"We have to after the way we turned the ball over last week. The thing that happened today is we created turnovers, and we didn't turn the football over... except for there at the end where we fumbled and gave them a touchdown. All we've got to do is hang on to the football there."
"We I guess we've got to get him 100 yards every week. That must be a key. I'm happy for Andre. He made some nice runs... made some nice cuts and came out of some tackles."
