Siler City, NC - Jordan-Matthews' Anthony Garner, a 6-foot-2, 295 pound defensive tackle, has verbally committed to play for the East Carolina Pirates in 2008.

Rivals.com reports that Jordan-Matthews head football coach Terry McNeil confirmed the decision.

Garner runs the 40 in 5.0 seconds, which is respectable for the position. However, his 360 pound bench press and production on the field are his big selling points.

He had 90 tackles and 15 sacks last season in high school.

About a month ago, Garner broke his leg and will be out for the 2007 season.

Garner had eight sacks and 11 tackles for a loss before his injury.

Garner chose East Carolina over the North Carolina Tar Heels, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Tennessee Volunteers, and Virginia Tech Hokies.
