UNC's Brian Walker among this week's ACC Football Players of the Week[Sep. 8, 2014]
Three members of Virginia Tech’s defensive unit received Atlantic Coast Conference weekly football honors following their performances in Saturday night’s win at No. 8 Ohio State, which capped an 11-0 weekend for league teams versus nonconference opponents. Locally UNC's Brian Walker was named the Co-Defensive Back of the Week. Walker returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and added a second interception in the fourth quarter of Carolina’s 31-27 win over San Diego State.
ACC announces game times & TV for September 20[Sep. 8, 2014]
The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the following football game times and networks for Saturday, September. 20. Locally, Tulane will play at Duke at 12:30 pm, UNC will travel to ECU for a 3:30 pm game, while Army visits Wake Forest for a 3:30 pm game. Presbyterian closes out the day with a game at NC State that starts at 6 pm.
New Top Hat Tavern will offer beer and wine at Wake Forest football games[Sep. 4, 2014]
Wake Forest University announced today the introduction of the Top Hat Tavern, a new addition to the game day experience at BB&T Field. Located behind the video board and Deacon Hill on the South side of the stadium, the Top Hat Tavern will make beer and wine available to the general public at football games. The Top Hat Tavern joins Deacon Tower and Bridger Field House as the third area within BB&T Field to offer beer and wine sales to patrons. Soft drinks and water will also be available within the Tavern.
Atlantic Coast Conference football mid-week notes[Sep. 4, 2014]
After a year in 2013, when the ACC became the first conference with five quarterbacks who threw for 8,000 or more career yards, ACC teams fielded 10 new starting quarterbacks in the opening week of the season. Included among the new starters were two true freshmen quarterbacks Brad Kaaya (West Hills, Calif.) of Miami and John Wolford (Jacksonville, Fla.) of Wake Forest--which marked the first time in history the league had two true freshmen start their season openers.
UNC football coach Larry Fedora suspends four for Liberty game[Aug. 28, 2014]
University of North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora has suspended sophomore Des Lawrence, redshirt freshman Donnie Miles, freshman M.J. Stewart and sophomore Brian Walker for Saturday’s game against Liberty. The one-game suspension stems from a violation of team policy.
ACC Blitz Kick-Off set to air beginning this weekend[Aug. 26, 2014]
Raycom Sports will preview the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference football season this weekend with the ACC Blitz Kick-Off Special, hosted by Tom Werme and Tommy Bowden. The show includes features on the #1-ranked defending national champion Florida State Seminoles and the reigning Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jameis Winston, and a look back at Duke’s run last season to their first Coastal Division championship.
Carolina makes changes in future football schedules[Aug. 13, 2014]
The University of North Carolina will play a home-and-home football series with the University of California in 2017 and 2018, UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham announced Wednesday. The Tar Heels will play host to the Bears on Sept. 2, 2017, and then play on the road in Berkeley on Sept. 1, 2018.
NC State Athletics dedicates new Close-King Indoor Practice Facility[Aug. 12, 2014]
A ceremony to dedicate the Wolfpack’s new state-of-the-art indoor practice facility was held on the construction site adjacent to Carter-Finley Stadium today. The facility will benefit football, track and field, and other field sports, and is scheduled for completion next spring. The ceremony featured remarks from Chancellor Randy Woodson, Director of Athletics Debbie Yow, head football coach Dave Doeren and Executive Director of the Wolfpack Club, Bobby Purcell.
Demon Deacons go through first preseason football scrimmage[Aug. 11, 2014]
Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson put the Demon Deacons through a two-hour scrimmage on Sunday evening at BB&T Field in the first live scrimmage of the preseason. The offense ran 112 plays during the controlled scrimmage as five quarterbacks took reps. The offense ran for 163 yards and threw for 202 while the defense collected 11 sacks.
Wake Forest sets schedule for second week of football camp[Aug. 9, 2014]
Wake Forest University will embark on its second week of preseason camp with an evening practice on Saturday, August 9. The Demon Deacons will work out at 7:00 pm Saturday at the Doc Martin Football Practice Complex. On Sunday head coach Dave Clawson will put the Deacons through their first scrimmage of camp at 5:00 pm at BB&T Field.
Tar Heels sign Ty'son Williams to a football scholarship agreement[Aug. 2, 2014]
The University of North Carolina has signed a scholarship agreement with running back Ty’son Williams of Sumter, South Carolina. Williams will enroll in January, 2015, upon completion of his high school degree. Williams attends Crestwood High School. He is ranked the No. 23 running back in the country and the No. 3 player in South Carolina by 247sports.com. Last season, he rushed for 1,608 yards and 16 touchdowns on 181 carries.
UNC football's "Meet The Heels" set for August 3[Aug. 1, 2014]
The 2013 University of North Carolina football team will host "Meet The Heels" Saturday, August 3, at Kenan Stadium. Gates will open at 3 p.m. Players will be available for autographs from 4-6 pm. Defensive players and specialists will sign from 4-5 p.m. and offensive players will sign from 5-6 p.m. Head coach Larry Fedora will be available for autographs from 4-6 p.m.
