Demon Deacons conduct first scrimmage[Aug. 18, 2004] Exactly halfway through preseason camp, the Demon Deacons took a mid-term of sorts, participating in the season’s first scrimmage on Wednesday morning. The full-contact scrimmage lasted 90 minutes at Groves Stadium.
Wake Forest football puts on pads for the first time[Aug. 15, 2004] The skies cleared Saturday afternoon as the Deacons took the campus fields for the fifth practice of the 2004 preseason. Saturday marked the first day that Wake Forest wore pads, however practice drills still focused on fundamentals rather than full contact scrimmages.
Aguanno & Schneider highlight Duke football scrimmage[Aug. 15, 2004] Duke senior linebacker Giuseppe Aguanno recorded three tackles for loss and sophomore quarterback Mike Schneider completed 15-of-22 passes for 176 yards to highlight Duke's 120-play football scrimmage on Sunday evening.

Demon Deacons open the 2004 season with their first practice session[Aug. 11, 2004] Tuesday night's practice marked the first of the 2004 pre-season. In pleasantly cooler than average temperatures and under the lights of the campus practice fields, head coach Jim Grobe and his staff conducted a helmet-only, no contact session, designated mostly to learning the fundamentals. The practice lasted from 7-10pm.

Camp Grobe opens at Wake Forest[Aug. 10, 2004] All 26 newcomers, including eight walk-ons, reported on Monday afternoon. The student-athletes received keys to their on-campus housing, their post office keys, their Wake Forest ID cards and schedules for both freshmen orientation and football practice. At 4:00 p.m., the student-athletes’ parents attended a “Freshman Parent” orientation meeting with athletic director Ron Wellman and several members of the football support staff.

Duke Football Opens Practice[Aug. 9, 2004] The Duke football team kicked off practice for the 2004 season with a single workout on Monday afternoon. The Blue Devils, who open the season on September 4 at Navy, worked out in shorts and helmets.

Duke football reports to campus[Aug. 8, 2004] Durham, N.C. - Duke's 103-member football team reported to campus on Sunday for the beginning preseason camp. The Blue Devils will begin practice on Monday with an afternoon session beginning at 4 p.m.

ACC releases 2004 football schedule[Feb. 2, 2004] The 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference football schedule released Monday by ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford is comprised of 78 games, including 44 conference matchups, over a span of 15 weeks. One of the ACC's two new members, Virginia Tech, will bring the curtain up on the 2004 gridiron campaign when it travels to Washington, D.C., to take on Southern California on Thursday, August 28. League play will get underway the following week.

Wolfpack announces 2004 football schedule[Feb. 2, 2004] The NC State football squad, which completed the 2003 campaign with a win in the Mazda Tangerine Bowl, will play three home games next season against teams that finished in the top 10 of the coaches poll in 2003. The Wolfpack will play six games in Carter-Finley Stadium and will face East Carolina at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Thanksgiving weekend.

Tar Heels release 2004 football schedule[Feb. 2, 2004] Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference released the 2004 football schedule on Monday. Carolina's home schedule features contests against William & Mary, Georgia Tech, Louisville, NC State, Miami and Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels face road games at Virginia, Florida State, Utah, Wake Forest and Duke.

Siler City's Edwards will coach Cleveland Browns linebackers[Jan. 23, 2004] The Cleveland Browns announced that George Edwards has been named linebackers coach. A four-year letter winner at linebacker at Duke, Edwards was a two-year special teams captain and was an honorable mention All-ACC selection in 1989. A native of Siler City, N.C., Edwards graduated from Duke with a political science degree and did post graduate study at the University of Florida.
