[Apr. 24, 2005] Winston-Salem, N.C. -- Wake Forest cornerback Eric King was selected in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft on Sunday afternoon. King was chosen by the Buffalo Bills as the 156th overall pick. King was a two-time All-ACC selection, making the first team as a junior and the second team as a senior. He leaves Wake Forest with 39 career pass break-ups, the second-most in school history.

[Apr. 13, 2005] The NC State Athletic Department will hold a surplus sale before and during the Spring Football Game on April 16th at Carter-Finley Stadium. Fans have the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of new and used NC State athletic merchandise including jerseys, cleats, shoes, Reynolds Coliseum chairs, and much more. The sale will take place on the concourse on the west side of the stadium. Gates at Carter-Finley Stadium will open at 11:00 am for the sale. The Spring Game begins at 1:00pm and admission is FREE for everyone.

[Apr. 9, 2005] Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The Wake Forest defense forced four turnovers and allowed two touchdowns to “defeat” the offense 41-22 under a modified scoring system in the Spring Game at Groves Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The coaching staff set up a scoring system which rewarded the offense and defense for scores, turnovers and field position. An estimated crowd of 2,500 enthusiastic Deacon fans caught a glimpse of the 2005 team, including 17 newcomers in the freshmen class.

[Apr. 9, 2005] The Wolfpack football team scrimmaged for two hours under sunny skies on Saturday morning, as NC State enters its last week of spring workouts. The offense dominated the first half of the scrimmage, while the defense picked up the intensity in the second half. Bobby Washington highlighted the day, rushing for 152 yards on 16 carries while working with the second-team offense. Reggie Davis also had some good runs while working with the first team, while TB Darrell Blackman sat out with an ankle sprain.

[Apr. 8, 2005] Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The Wake Forest football team will complete spring practice with the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 9 at Groves Stadium. Gates open at noon and the game begins at 1:00 p.m. in a live, offense vs. defense format. The Spring Game is open to the public and admission is free.

[Apr. 2, 2005] Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The Wake Forest defense shined in the football team’s second intrasquad scrimmage at Groves Stadium, a two-hour session on Saturday morning. The Deacon defenders forced multiple turnovers, including fumble recoveries by redshirt freshmen linebackers Aaron Curry and Antonio Wilson.

[Mar. 30, 2005] Raleigh, N.C. - NC State defensive end Mario Williams has been named to the 2005 Rotary Lombardi Award watch list released this week. Williams is one of 54 players across the country to be named to one of the premier college football awards. The 36th Rotary Lombardi Award will be presented on December 7 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston.

[Mar. 28, 2005] With first-year offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien on board, the Blue Devils have spent much of the spring installing a new offense. While the Blue Devils bring back just one starting offensive lineman in guard Tyler Krieg, Duke is the only team in the ACC that will return all of its starting skilled position players from a year ago. Roof noted that Krieg, along with returning lettermen Bob Benion and Lavdrim Bauta, were experiencing good spring practice sessions.

[Mar. 24, 2005] Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The Wake Forest football team held its first intrasquad scrimmage at Groves Stadium under a bright, sunny sky on Thursday afternoon. Among the highlights of the afternoon were a pair of blocked kicks. On an extra point, Jonathan Abbate helped push Jeremy Thompson through the line to block the kick. Then, Riley Swanson scooped up the ball and returned it 90 yards for what would have been two points. Before he was off to the races, Swanson had to escape holder Ryan Plackemeier and out-run placekicker Sam Swank up the sideline. Swanson was ushered into the endzone by Josh Gattis and others.

[Feb. 15, 2005] Greensboro, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Tuesday that the league will implement the use of instant reply on an experimental basis beginning with the 2005 football season. The proposal, by the league's Athletics Directors, was approved unanimously by the Faculty Representatives at the Conference's Winter Meetings.

[Jan. 21, 2005] The Atlantic Coast Conference released the 2005 football schedule on Thursday and North Carolina will play four home games against teams ranked the final Associated Press Top 25 poll and four road games against 2004 bowl teams in what should be one of the most difficult schedules in the nation. Carolina will play home games against Wisconsin, Utah, Boston College, Maryland, Virginia and Duke, and road games at Georgia Tech, NC State, Miami, Virginia Tech and Louisville.

The Blue Devils will take on a total of eight teams that secured bowl eligibility a year ago. Duke opens the 2005 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 3 with a non-conference game at East Carolina.

[Jan. 21, 2005] Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner John Swofford released the league’s full 2005 football schedule on Thursday. Wake Forest’s season opener will be Thursday, September 1 at Groves Stadium against Vanderbilt. Wake Forest will host Vanderbilt, East Carolina, Maryland, Clemson, NC State and Miami at Groves Stadium this fall. The Demon Deacons will travel to Nebraska, Florida State, Boston College, Duke and Georgia Tech. “It’s certainly an exciting schedule,” head coach Jim Grobe, who enters his fifth season at Wake Forest, said.

[Jan. 20, 2005] The 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference football schedule released today by Commissioner John D. Swofford is comprised of 84 games, including 48 conference match-ups, over a span of 13 weeks. The league's 53rd season will get underway Thursday, September 1 with Wake Forest hosting Vanderbilt in Groves Stadium and seven games on Saturday, September 3, including defending champion Virginia Tech visiting NC State in the first conference game of the season. Two days later, Florida State will host Miami in a Labor Day Monday night game televised nationally by ABC.
