WFU offense shines at first scrimmage
[Aug. 13, 2005] On Saturday morning, and for the first time this fall, the Wake Forest football team scrimmaged at Groves Stadium. The offense, with nine returning starters, had the upper hand, putting together a number of sustained drives. One of the touchdowns came on a short pass completion from sophomore Benjamin Mauk to redshirt freshman fullback Richard Belton.

Duke opens football practice
[Aug. 9, 2005] The Duke University football team opened practice on Monday evening, working out in helmets and shorts for just over two hours under overcast skies.

ACC and the NFL Draft
[Aug. 7, 2005] An ACC record 36 players were selected in the 2005 NFL Draft, surpassing the previous record of 32 set in 1957. Florida State led all schools with nine overall selections and two first round picks. Antrel Rolle of Miami was the first ACC player chosen in the 2005 draft selected by Arizona with the eighth overall pick. A Virginia school record seven athletes were selected in 2005.

Meet the Heels this Saturday at Kenan Stadium
[Aug. 7, 2005] The 2005 University of North Carolina football team will host "Meet the Heels" on Saturday, August 13 from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. at Kenan Stadium. Head coach John Bunting and the entire Tar Heel squad will sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans.

Fox Sports Net South to re-broadcast 2001 WFU-UNC game
[Aug. 6, 2005] Fox Sports Net South will present a condensed, one-hour version of Wake Forest’s thrilling 32-31 victory over North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2001. The broadcast will air five times in the coming week, beginning Saturday, August 6 at 4:00 p.m.

Duke football set to report on Sunday
[Aug. 6, 2005] Headlined by 45 returning lettermen, Duke head football coach Ted Roof and his staff will welcome the entire Blue Devil team to campus on Sunday for the start of preseason camp. Duke opens practice on Monday evening, and kicks off the 2005 schedule on September 3 at East Carolina.

Deacons begin preseason football practice
[Aug. 5, 2005] Wake Forest’s 2005 campaign officially got underway Thursday night with a two-hour session under the lights at the team’s on-campus practice facility. Anticipation for the first practice of football season at Wake Forest was high as players were chatting and tossing the ball on the field almost 40 minutes before the session actually began.

[Aug. 4, 2005] Seventeen former ACC football players have made it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Five of them played for ACC schools in the area. Here's the list of the best in their profession.

WFU Demon Deacons report for practice
[Aug. 3, 2005] Wake Forest head football coach Jim Grobe welcomed his fifth Wake Forest football team to campus on Wednesday. The Demon Deacons begin preseason with a two-hour practice session on Thursday beginning at 8:15 p.m. on the campus practice fields next to the Pruitt Football Wing. All Wake Forest preseason practices are open to the public and the media.

Meet the Duke Blue Devils day set for August 20
[Aug. 3, 2005] The Duke football program will host its annual Meet the Blue Devils Day on Saturday, August 20 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Yoh Football Center on campus. Players and coaches will be available for autographs and pictures while posters will be distributed free of charge.

NCSU Wolfpack football posters on sale
[Jul. 27, 2005] Beginning this week, the NC State athletic media relations office is selling a limited edition Wolfpack poster. The 24x36 inch glossy poster is a photo mosaic that features the color and pageantry of Wolfpack football and is suitable for framing. Several of the images in the mosaic were taken by Chatham Journal photographer Gene Galin.

2005 NCAA football rules changes
[Jul. 27, 2005] On February 24, the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved the Football Rules Committee’s proposals for the 2005 season.

WFU's Barclay, Plackemeier, Vallos named preseason All-ACC
[Jul. 26, 2005] Senior running back Chris Barclay, junior punter Ryan Plackemeier and junior offensive tackle Steve Vallos were named Preseason All-ACC by the league's media Monday in voting conducted at the annual Football Kickoff. Wake Forest, along with Miami and NC State, were the only three schools to have three players recognized on the All-ACC squads.

2005 preseason All-ACC team announced
[Jul. 25, 2005] Preseason All-ACC selections were announced Monday at the ACC Kickoff. Area ACC players who made the list were Wake Forest's running back Chris Barclay, offensive lineman Steve Vallos and punter Ryan Plackemeier; NC State's wide receiver Tramain Hall, defensive end Mario Williams and defensive end Manny Lawson; UNC's offensive guard Kyle Ralph.
