WFU spring football practice begins WednesdayWFU spring football practice begins Wednesday
[Mar. 13, 2006] The Wake Forest football team begins spring practice Wednesday at its on-campus practice facility. The first practice is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. The Demon Deacons will have 15 days of practice, typically on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There will be two Saturday sessions -- March 18 and the Spring Scrimmage on April 8.

[Feb. 27, 2006] Wolfpack head football coach Chuck Amato has announced that Pat Meyer, an 11-year coaching veteran in strength and conditioning, has been named offensive line coach at NC State. Meyer has been on the Wolfpack staff since Amato's first year (2000) and has been the director of strength and conditioning since 2004.

[Feb. 2, 2006] Fifteen student-athletes have signed to attend Wake Forest University and play football next season for head coach Jim Grobe and his staff. The balanced recruiting class includes eight players on offense, six players on defense and one specialist.

[Jan. 26, 2006] The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2006 football schedule Wednesday. Wake Forest's slate features five teams that participated in bowl games last season, all of which won a postseason game. Four of Wake Forest's 2006 opponents finished the 2005 season ranked in the Associated Press top 25. The Demon Deacons have faced four top 25 opponents in the same year only once in program history -- in 1993.

[Jan. 25, 2006] The 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference football schedule released today by Commissioner John D. Swofford is comprised of 97 games, including 48 conference match-ups and the second annual ACC Championship Game, Dec. 2, in Jacksonville, Fla., over a span of 14 weeks. Duke, Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest start the season at home on September 2nd.

[Jan. 20, 2006] Wake Forest’s spring football schedule has been set, including the 2006 Spring Game which will be held at Groves Stadium on Saturday April 8. Wake Forest opens spring drills on Wednesday, March 15 at the team’s on-campus practice facility. Head coach Jim Grobe, who begins his sixth season in Winston-Salem, will put the Demon Deacons through the paces 15 times during late-March and early-April leading up to the Spring Game.

[Dec. 8, 2005] Wake Forest senior punter Ryan Plackemeier was selected as the 2005 Ray Guy Award winner at the ESPN/Home Depot College Football Awards Show by the Greater Augusta (Ga.) Sports Council on Thursday night. The award, which began in 2000, goes to the college football’s best punter. Plackemeier is the first punter in the ACC to win the award.

[Dec. 7, 2005] Mario Williams has been named an All-American by Sports Illustrated after an outstanding junior season. Williams, a junior from Richlands, N.C., led the ACC and ranked fourth nationally in sacks with 13, including nine in the last five contests. He helped lead NC State to a convincing win over Maryland to become bowl eligible, notching a school record four sacks in the game.

[Dec. 4, 2005] NC State's football team will go bowling in its home state, as the Wolfpack will face Big East opponent South Florida in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte. The game will be played on New Year's Eve at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2 from the Bank of America Stadium.

WFU's Chris Barclay named ACC Player of the YearWFU's Chris Barclay named ACC Player of the Year
[Nov. 30, 2005] Wake Forest senior running back Chris Barclay was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, the league announced Wednesday. Barclay is the fourth Wake Forest player ever to win the award, the first since 1979.

[Nov. 30, 2005] The ACC has eight teams that are eligible for bowls following the 2005 season: Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The only local ACC team to be bowl eligible is NC State. Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest will be staying hope this bowl season.

[Nov. 20, 2005] North Carolina State used a blocked punt and an interception for two easy touchdowns, defeating Middle Tennessee, 24-3, Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium.
