WFU's Jim Grobe wins AP Coach of the Year[Dec. 21, 2006] The Demon Deacons were coming off three straight losing seasons, but had one of the most experienced rosters in the ACC with 18 returning starters. Great seasons, however, rarely start the way this one began for the Deacons.

WFU's Swank named ESPN first team All-American[Dec. 16, 2006] Wake Forest sophomore placekicker Sam Swank was named a first team All-Americans by ESPN on Friday. ESPN becomes the third national media outlet to recognize Swank as a first team All-American.
WFU's Griffin, Skinner named Freshman All-Americans[Dec. 9, 2006] Wake Forest redshirt freshmen Jeff Griffin and Riley Skinner were named The Sporting News’ Freshman All-America teams this week. Skinner was chosen to the second team and Griffin was a third-team pick.
NC State fires Chuck Amato[Nov. 26, 2006] NC State Director of Athletics Lee Fowler has announced that head football Chuck Amato will not be retained for next season. Amato, who has posted a 49-37 overall record and 25-31 mark in the ACC during his seven years as head coach, finished this season with a 3-9 mark and failed to qualify for postseason play for the second time in three years.
WFU's Frazier tabbed to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team[Nov. 9, 2006] Wake Forest offensive guard Louis Frazier has been named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District Team. Frazier, a native from Clearwater, Fla., owns a 3.78 grade point average. His major is biology and his minor is chemistry. Frazier plans to become a pediatrician when his playing days are over.
Duke Blue Devils fall to Vanderbilt, 45-28[Oct. 28, 2006] Despite a recording-tying four-touchdown effort from running back Justin Boyle, the Duke Blue Devils fell to Vanderbilt, 45-28, spoiling Parent’s Day at Wallace Wade Stadium. Boyle also tied his career high with 113 rushing yards on just 14 carries.

Bunting will not return as UNC head football coach in 2007[Oct. 23, 2006] John Bunting will not return as head coach of the University of North Carolina football program in 2007, Director of Athletics Dick Baddour announced this evening. Bunting, a 1972 UNC graduate, is in his sixth year as the Tar Heels' head coach. Bunting will continue to coach the Tar Heels through the rest of this season.

Five of the nine ACC games played to date have been decided by seven points or less. Virginia defeats Blue Devils, 37-0[Oct. 1, 2006] Virginia spoiled Duke’s 2006 edition of Homecoming by defeating the Blue Devils, 37-0, at Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers scored on each of their first three offensive possessions and added a defensive touchdown in the third quarter.
