Greenville, NC — East Carolina will host in-state rivals North Carolina and North Carolina State in 2007.

The school released its schedule Monday, and it includes road games at Virginia Tech and West Virginia, a pair of bowl teams that were nationally ranked in 2006. The game at Blacksburg, Virginia, is the Pirates' opener on Sept. 1.

"Our 2007 schedule, arguably, is about as challenging as they come," coach Skip Holtz said. "We certainly won't have the luxury of easing into it in September, but it does represent a great opportunity for our program."

The Tar Heels visit on Sept. 8, and the Wolfpack come to Greenville on Oct. 20.

The Pirates will have six home games and play 11 consecutive weeks before their first open date Nov. 17.

Other teams visiting Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium include Southern Mississippi, Central Florida, UAB and Tulane.

East Carolina also plays road games at Houston, Texas-El Paso, Memphis and Marshall.
