Durham, N.C. - The Duke football team kicked off practice for the 2004 season with a single workout on Monday afternoon. The Blue Devils, who open the season on September 4 at Navy, worked out in shorts and helmets.

"I thought our enthusiasm was good today," said head coach Ted Roof following the session. "For the first day, our tempo was pretty good. That is something that will get better with time. Right now we want to get our system in and evaluate our personnel. I was excited about the freshman and how they adapted to the first practice."

"It feels really good to be back on the field," said senior linebacker Giuseppe Aguanno. "We're worked hard all summer long and now it is time to get ready for the season as one unit."

Duke will continue the preseason with a practice session on Tuesday afternoon.
