Five Duke players have earned preseason recognition from annual publications previewing the 2005 football season.

The Sporting News named John Talley and Tyler Krieg to its second team all-league unit while Athlon Sports tabbed Talley and Chris Davis to its second team all-conference squad with Phillip Alexander receiving third team merit. In addition, rookie Vince Oghobaase was named the ACC’s Top Impact Freshman by Street & Smith’s college football preview edition.

Talley, a junior cornerback from Duncan, S.C., earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2004 after posting 59 tackles and four interceptions while Krieg, a junior offensive guard from Tualatin, Ore., enjoyed his first season as a starter last fall. A sophomore safety/kick returner from Stone Mountain, Ga., Davis was a Freshman All-ACC and Freshman All-America selection in 2004 after ranking 13th nationally in kickoff return average.

Alexander, a senior defensive end from Bronx, N.Y., suffered a season-ending leg injury in week two of the 2004 campaign. In 2003, the defensive end recorded 18.5 tackles for loss along with 59 tackles and 6.5 quarterback sacks. Oghobaase, a native of Houston, Texas, enrolled at Duke in January of 2005 and participated in spring drills. In his final season at Alief Hastings High School, the 6-6, 325-pound defensive tackle picked up 68 tackles and 12 sacks en route to earning prep All-America accolades.
