Heavy rains and lightning cause postponement.
Chapel Hill, NC - The NCAA men's lacrosse first round match between North Carolina and Navy was postponed Saturday afternoon and has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at Fetzer Field.
Heavy rains and lightning storms swept through the Chapel Hill area beginning between 2 and 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and remained steady throughout the remainder of the afternoon. The teams were able to take the field for their warmup period shortly after 4 p.m. but more serious storms swept through the area beginning at 4:30 p.m. The teams left the field at that point.
Eventually, the NCAA games committee and the NCAA director of championships made the decision at 6:45 p.m. to postpone the game.
The game will now be played at 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon. All ticket stubs purchased on Saturday will be honored on Sunday.
There will be no TV coverage of Sunday's game. Live stats will be available on TarHeelBlue.com via CSTV Gametracker.
