No. 10 Blue Devils host Princeton Wednesday[Mar. 22, 2006] After a week off, the No. 10 Duke women’s tennis team returns to action Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home contest against Princeton. The Blue Devils are 8-3 with a 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference ledger this season, while the Tigers hold a 4-5 record heading into a 4 p.m. match against UNC Greensboro Tuesday at Duke. Pending weather conditions in Durham, the Princeton-Duke match will be played at either the outdoor Ambler Tennis Stadium or the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The two facilities are located next to each other on Duke’s west campus.
Duke's First Varsity Eight Crew has impressive showing at Longhorn Invitational[Mar. 19, 2006] Duke’s First Varsity Eight crew had an impressive showing over the weekend at the sixth-annual Longhorn Invitational held on Town Lake in Austin, Texas. The crew of Sarah Shapiro (coxswain), Tonia Boock, Lia Hart, Virginia Kane, Alissa Van Arnam, Emily Herrington, Caroline Wray, Krista Harryman and Emma Darling took three-of-four races, posting wins against Kansas State, Iowa and Texas.
No. 1 Duke opens 2006 season at Longwood[Feb. 13, 2006] No. 1 Duke will begin the 2006 season on Tuesday when they travel to Farmville, Va. for a contest against Longwood at 4 p.m. Duke enters the 2006 season with high expectations. They received the No. 1 ranking in the preseason Inside Lacrosse Top-20 Rankings and are ranked No. 2 in the Lacrosse Magazine preseason rankings.
No. 10 Duke cruises to 5-0 victory over No. 24 Texas A&M[Feb. 12, 2006] No. 10 Duke won two of the three doubles and four singles matches to defeat No. 24 Texas A&M 5-0 on Sunday at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. With the win the Blue Devils improve to 4-1 on the year while the Aggies drop to 0-4 overall.
Duke women finish 4-1 on final day of Duke Invitational[Feb. 11, 2006] The Duke women’s fencing team earned four victories in five dual matches on Saturday in the Duke Invitational to improve to 11-7 on the year. The women earned top billing in the weapon standings in both the saber and epee. The saber team won all five of their bouts and the epee squad went 4-1 on the day.
Blue Devils welcome ranked Virginia to Taishoff[Jan. 19, 2006] Duke’s swimmers and divers return to Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion Friday for their third of four home contests this season. The action, which begins at 6 p.m., pits the Blue Devils against Atlantic Coast Conference rival Virginia, whose men are ranked 13th and women 20th in the nation.
Blue Devil grapplers fall to the Citadel, 28-12[Jan. 9, 2006] The Duke wrestling team suffered its fourth loss of the season, falling to The Citadel, 28-12, on Monday afternoon in McAlister Field House. The Blue Devils fall to 0-4 on the year while the Bulldogs improve to 1-2.
Duke women’s tennis adds pair for 2006-07[Dec. 16, 2005] As the Duke women’s tennis team gears up for a promising 2005-06 campaign, head coach Jamie Ashworth, entering his 10th year with the Blue Devils, announced the addition of two tennis players for the 2006-07 season. Elizabeth Plotkin of San Francisco, Calif., and Amanda Granson of Hilton Head, S.C., will join the Blue Devils next year.
Duke's Michael Videira named Hermann Trophy semifinalist[Nov. 16, 2005] Duke's Michael Videira was selected as one of 15 semifinalists for the Hermann Trophy in an announcement made by the Missouri Athletic Club on Wednesday. The Hermann Trophy is given annually to the top player in the country.
Duke receives 6th seed for NCAA soccer tournament[Nov. 15, 2005] Duke has been awarded the sixth seed in the field of 48 for the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament. As one of the top 16 seeds in the bracket, the Blue Devils will receive a bye in the first round and will host their second round game. They will face the winner of the match between Creighton (12-4-3) and Lafayette (13-4-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
