Durham, N.C. -- The Duke men's tennis team is ranked eighth in the country in the first national poll of the year released this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Defending NCAA champion Illinois is ranked first, followed by Baylor, Florida, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Mississippi, UCLA, Duke, Texas A&M and Kentucky. Other ACC schools in therankings are Clemson (26th), Wake Forest (T30th), Florida State (32nd), Georgia Tech (40th) and North Carolina (50th).
Individually, Duke's Ludovic Walter is ranked seventh in singles while pairing with Jason Zimmermann to form the second-ranked doubles team. Ohio State's Jeremy Wurtzman is the number one-ranked singles player while in doubles, Lester Cook and Ante Matijevic of Texas A&M hold the top spot.
