Pittsboro, NC - On February 21, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved the creation of The Leonard D. Scurlock Community Service Award recommended by the Parks & Recreation Department and the County Recreation Advisory Board.

The award honors residents who “have displayed an extraordinary commitment through volunteerism to Chatham County residents participating in recreational activities” offered through the Parks & Recreation Department or jointly with community groups. The award will be presented annually to up to two individuals.

The first award was presented to members of Leonard Scurlock’s family in recognition of his dedication as a long-time volunteer coach as well as a seasonal employee of the Parks & Recreation Department. He passed away in 2010.

Shown in the photo at the presentation are (from the left): Parks & Recreation Director Tracy Burnett; brother Adrian Scurlock; son Donte Scurlock; brother Tim Scurlock; and County Commissioner Chairman Brian Bock.
