Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Commissioners, through the Recreational Advisory Board, have again chosen to award grant monies to the Chatham Soccer League, a non-profit organization promoting youth soccer in Chatham County. Three grants were approved:

The first grant for $600 is for Coaching education. The purpose of which is to provide introductory coaching education to all parent volunteer coaches to enhance the recreational experience of all those participating in the Chatham Soccer League. Soccer is not a sport that many of our parent volunteer coaches participated in as they were growing up. These modules help to span that gap and make the recreational experience better for all involved.

The Youth I and II coaching modules are designed to provide the most current information on the growth and development of the youth soccer player. The youth modules concentrate on developmentally appropriate activities that help the child develop mentally, socially, and physically; taking the approach that the game is within the child. By developing these activities, we are allowing the game to be the teacher while providing a fun, organized, training environment without too much stress on the player or the coach.

The Youth I coaching course will be offered on August 27th from 1pm - 6pm at the Pittsboro Elementary School soccer fields. Check the
website for details.

The second grant for $750 will partially cover the cost of repairing drainage problems around the Pittsboro Elementary School soccer field.
Water currently stands in puddles around the field due to poor drainage.

The third grant for $3,500 will provide soccer goals for the new Horton Middle School soccer field.

The Chatham Soccer League is currently accepting registrations for the Fall season for all youth under the age of 18. Visit their website for details.
