The Tar Heels (28-4) are a top seed for the 13th time, an NCAA record. The Duke University men's basketball team earned the Atlantic Coast Conference automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by claiming the 2009 ACC Championship on Sunday and was then awarded the No. 2 seed in the East Regional by the selection committee. Wake Forest has received an at-large bid and will be seeded fourth in the Midwest Region.

[Mar. 6, 2009] The Wolfpack Club kicked off its annual spring tour of the Southeast Tuesday night, with football coach Tom O’Brien and athletics director Lee Fowler as the featured speakers at its stop in Edenton. It was the first of 23 Caravan stops, which includes Pittsboro, planned between now and August, featuring Fowler, O’Brien, Wolfpack Club Executive Director Bobby Purcell, basketball coach Sidney Lowe and other varsity head coaches.
