UNC Tar Heels down Radford Highlanders, 101-58[Mar. 20, 2009] Tyler Hansbrough set the Atlantic Coast Conference career scoring mark in the opening minutes and finished with 22 points asthe South Regional’s top seed won an easy tournament opener. Wayne Ellington had 25 points for the Tar Heels (29-4), who led the entire way and had no trouble beating the 16th-seeded Highlanders even with point guard Ty Lawson, who missed his third straight game with a toe injury.
Wake Forest basketball coach and players meet the media[Mar. 20, 2009] Wake Forest met with the media prior to its shootaround at AmericanAirlines Arena on Thursday in Miami. Head coach Dino Gaudio and captains Ishmael Smith, Jeff Teague and L.D. Williams spoke at the team's press conference.
Seven ACC teams earn NCAA Basketball Tournament bids[Mar. 19, 2009] The University of North Carolina men's basketball team has earned a No. 1 seed in the 2009 NCAA Tournament and will open play on Thursday against No. 16 seed Radford (21-11) in Greensboro, N.C. The Tar Heels (28-4) are a top seed for the 13th time, an NCAA record. The Duke University men's basketball team earned the Atlantic Coast Conference automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by claiming the 2009 ACC Championship on Sunday and was then awarded the No. 2 seed in the East Regional by the selection committee. Wake Forest has received an at-large bid and will be seeded fourth in the Midwest Region.
2009 NCAA Basketball Tournament schedule[Mar. 17, 2009] Here is the schedule for the first and second rounds of the 2009 NCAA basketball tournament. Locally, UNC will face Radford on Thursday at approximately 2:50 p.m. and Duke will go up against Binghamton at approximately 9:40 p.m. Both games will be played at the Greensboro Coliseum.
2008-09 All-ACC Basketball Teams[Mar. 13, 2009] Tyler Hansbrough has become the first player in league history to be unanimously selected four times to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference team. North Carolina teammate Ty Lawson joined him on the first team, along with Florida State guard Toney Douglas, Duke swingman Gerald Henderson and Miami guard Jack McClinton in voting by 76 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

2009 NCHSAA Basketball State Championship schedule[Mar. 12, 2009] The 95th Annual Men's NCHSAA Basketball Championships and the 38th Annual Women's NCHSAA Basketball Championships will take place at the Dean E. Smith Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The games will be played on Saturday, March 14, 2009.
Northwood boys' basketball team advances to the state title game[Mar. 9, 2009] The Northwood High School boys basketball team advanced to the 2A State title game with a resounding 59-21 victory over East Duplin Saturday evening at Minges Coliseum on the campus of East Carolina University. The Chargers advance to face Shelby in the 2A State championship game Saturday at 2:30 at the Dean E. Smith Center on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill.

NC State basketball coach Sidney Lowe to stop in Pittsboro on Wolfpack spring caravan[Mar. 6, 2009] The Wolfpack Club kicked off its annual spring tour of the Southeast Tuesday night, with football coach Tom O’Brien and athletics director Lee Fowler as the featured speakers at its stop in Edenton. It was the first of 23 Caravan stops, which includes Pittsboro, planned between now and August, featuring Fowler, O’Brien, Wolfpack Club Executive Director Bobby Purcell, basketball coach Sidney Lowe and other varsity head coaches.
32nd Annual ACC Women's Basketball Tournament pairings[Mar. 5, 2009] Maryland clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, which will begin Thursday, March 5, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. The Terrapins look to end North Carolina’s four-year ACC title streak in what will be the 10th Anniversary in Greensboro.
