UNC's Scott named to All-ACC Academic team

The May 2005 UNC graduate is named to the 10-player squad.

Greensboro, N.C. - The 2004-05 All-ACC Academic Basketball Team was released by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Wednesday. Former Tar Heel guard Melvin Scott was named to the 10-member squad. Scott earned his UNC degree in African Studies in May 2005.

Scott averaged 5.1 points per game as a senior in 2004-05. He played in all 27 games and made seven starts. He finished third on the team with 45 three-point field goals and shot 35.7 percent from behind the arc.

Scott finished his career with 873 points (6.8 ppg), 209 assists, 189 rebounds and 119 steals. Played in 129 games at Carolina, starting 59. He finished seventh in Carolina history with 183 career three-point field goals.

He averaged 3.8 points in the six NCAA Tournament games. Shooting 5 of 12 (41.7 percent) from three-point range. He played a key role down the stretch in the NCAA Tournament win over Villanova win with five points, including two important free throws, and two assists. He hit two free throws with 29 seconds to play to give Carolina 66-62 lead.
