Pittsboro, NC - As the Northwood Chargers varsity basketball team returns to the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill this Saturday, March 12, to compete for the title of ‘State 2A Champions’, not all of their fans will be able to be there in-person at the ‘Dean-Dome’ – but we have good news. The 2011 championship game will be broadcast ‘live’ in its entirety on Chatham County’s only radio-station WNCA AM-1570 with veteran sportscaster David Hart – air-time 2 pm for the pre-game show.

Northwood (27-4) will take-on the East Rutherford Cavaliers (26-1) for the championship title after defeating the defending state champions, the Kinston Vikings this past Saturday at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville.

This marks the seventh trip to the Dean Smith Center for a championship broadcast over WNCA for David Hart as the Jordan-Matthews boys were there in 1995 and 1996… the Chatham Central girls and Northwood boys were there in 2000… Chatham Central girls returned in 2001… and the Northwood boys went to the state championship as recently as 2009.

Mr. Hart has been providing regular-season coverage for Jordan-Matthews varsity sports over WNCA since 1986, as well as additional coverage for Chatham Central and Northwood, and has broadcast well over 1,000 games.

WNCA has a long partnership with Chatham County Schools through the Chatham County School Notebook. Three segments air weekly year-round and highlight programs, activities, and events from across the school district. The Chatham County Schools Public Relations Department coordinates the segments.

The district Facebook page and Twitter account will have updated scores at the end of every quarter.
