Take back our vote

Pittsboro, NC - Take Back our Vote is a committee formed to oppose the referendum on district voting. District voting is an attempt to divide the African American community and other communities in Chatham because the same power hungry and greedy officials who controlled the purse strings in Chatham County want to continue to hold onto the political strings thru this district voting scheme.

One of the reasons we oppose district voting is History-it speaks for itself and should not repeat itself. Prior to 1975 district voting was the "Jim Crow " law of the land in Chatham County. Not a single African American could get elected under that system.

Since 1975 our present system of county wide voting has allowed voters to come together from across the county to work on common issues and support candidates who work for all the citizens of Chatham County. Chatham County is unique in North Carolina in that African American candidates have consistently won election to the county commission thru the county wide voting system since 1978.

Together, we have fought to break the stranglehold the good ol boy system has had on Chatham that has nearly choked the life right out of it. We will not let you destroy this county just because you want to control it! We will not let you disenfranchise our vote!

To vote for district voting will send us back to a system of divisiveness, inequity, and will sacrifice the African American vote. Chatham County wants to move forward-for us and our future. We want to continue to work to build a united county that offers the best for all of us. We must not let district voting divide us. Vote NO district voting on November 7th.
