Water witching

Moncure, NC - I am not a dowser but I have used the dowsing technique to find water underground. It is not some psychic power or magic. I don't know why it works but I do know that it does. A friend suggested to me that I "dowse" my own well when I was in the process of building my dream house (what dream what that again? Ohm, yeah, happiness). Being somewhat of a skeptic about most things unseen I looked at the procedure from a scientific perspective and really tried to think about WHY dowsing could work.

There are many preferred methods for dowsing but the one I used involved two coat hangers, straightened into L shapes. One lightly holds the short part of the L and lets the long part turn back and forth freely. Holding these rods in front of ones body, you walk along and note when the two rods turn on their own or even bend down towards a spot on the ground.

I know, it sounds amazing, but I found that it works. I even tested it over a neighbors water line. I didn't know where the line was but found it without even a hint of it's possible location. I tried over deep bodies of water and found that the wires actually bent down towards the water.

I can't explain it and haven't heard a reputable explanation from a trained scientist (they are all skeptics too) but I believe my eyes. Try it sometime. I did and got the same results as my well digger. He told me I had chosen the best possible spot for my well. They got water deep and strong and I never worry about running out (yet). This seems like magic but is really just one of the many physical mysteries waiting out there to be discovered.

Dowse away!
