Chatham's water mis-deal

Chatham county, NC - The N&O has reported an outrageous water deal between Chatham and Harnett Counties whereby Chatham will pay Harnett $32 million dollars for up to 6 million gallons of water per day.

It was incorrectly stated that Chatham's water treatment plant draws 3 million gallons of water per day (3mgd) from Jordan Lake. In fact Chatham County has the CAPACITY to withdraw up to 3mgd through the Cary/Apex intake. Chatham actually has an State allocation of 6mgd, far beyond any reasonable projection of need.

It will be a cold day in Hell before Chatham needs 6mgd since the actual sales of water are shown in the table below. Sales have been flat for the last five years. Even with the pro-development stance of Bunkey Morgan and his cohorts, it is inconceivable that Chatham will need a supply of 5.1mgd in 10 years.

Is there intelligent life on the Chatham Board of Commissioners? Not much.
