District voting depends on one's perspective[Oct. 31, 2006] The issue of district voting is being clouded by the personalities involved. I understand that some view this as an attempt of the current commissioners to maintain power. Before we throw the baby out with the bathwater, let's stop and think about the ramifications.

A fair and reasonable proposal?[Oct. 31, 2006] Many Chatlist proponents of Bunkey's redistricting scheme claim it's a "fair" and "reasonable" way to make sure Chatham's Board of Commissioners (BOC) has representation from all areas of the county. These proponents don't offer much factual substantiation to show what's fair or reasonable about Bunkey's scheme.

District voting is okay in principle[Oct. 24, 2006] For me, district voting is okay in principle, but I'm against the current push in that direction and therefore am throwing my support behind the existing county wide system. This effort to change to district voting is a clear attempt to disenfranchise voters concentrated in the eastern half of the county.

The balance of power will shift[Oct. 24, 2006] I am amazed that people really think we are complete idiots . If we allow the entire county to vote for all five commissioners the balance of power will shift dramatically . The majority of the population in Chatham is in the northern sections of this county . We would be allowing those people to dictate to the rest of us in the remaining portions of the county what to do and how we do it .

It's not about us, it's not about you[Oct. 24, 2006] I commend Steve Candelori for making one comment in his previous post that I am in complete agreement with, “I trust the voters in the county to not pass up a good leader because they are Black, or Hispanic or Oriental, etc.”
By Delcenia Turner
Voting by district is fair[Oct. 24, 2006] I agree that voting by district is the fairest way to let all areas of Chatham County have a voice, rather than letting things be run by the Central Committee of an apparently well-financed coalition (big signs on billboards?).

Reasons for not voting by district[Oct. 24, 2006] Does district voting disenfranchise minorities? I don't have the answer. Please check out the organizations that have formed to educate us about this issue - Take Back Our Vote and Citizens for Countywide Voting - to get the facts, and make your own decision. I haven't looked into it but I suspect they have a good case.

And you thought I was nuts[Oct. 18, 2006] I find it amusing that the people that told me I was nuts for suggesting we cut the county in half and let the northern corner be its own county are the same ones complaining about the district vote.

Too old, too young, just right![Oct. 13, 2006] The best candidate in the Superior Court judgeship race is so obvious to me that I do not see what the fuss is about. Giving an individual the power to take away our rights is serious stuff.

The conservative vote is NO on voting by district[Oct. 13, 2006] A conservative voter, and any voter interested in looking out for the interest of farmers and small town in this county, the vote should be: NO on Voting by District.
By Duncan Murrell
Vote NO on Referendum, Nov 7th[Oct. 13, 2006] Do you really want to reduce your options from 5 to 1? Do you really want to have only ONE vote for county commissioner, every FOUR years? Do you really want to see "pork-barrel" politics here at the local level?
By John Bonitz
Yes for voting by district[Oct. 12, 2006] I am happy and proud to see and hear the support for district voting. I see signs, petitions and other indications of support for the way I'd like to see us elect county officials.

"Fun" downtown in Apex[Sep. 27, 2006] Meant to write last week and didn't; lost the reference to the "cute and fun" downtown in Apex and Cary and maybe I'm not quoting exactly.

When you can't debate the facts, resort to personal attacks[Sep. 27, 2006] When you can't debate the facts, resort to personal attacks. It would make a great bumper sticker for some in this county. Is this what honest discussion amongst people of good will has devolved to? Is it any wonder that someone wishing to post a view contrary to the vocal minority would wish to remain anonymous?
