Hold on tight: We're being taken for a ride!

Silk Hope, NC - Whether you call yourselves Chathamites, Chathamohicans, locals, or just plain folks, you are being taken for a ride. We are all being taken for a ride.

Please take a close look at the agenda Bunkey has prepared for Monday.

I count almost 600 new houses coming out of his "consent" agenda. Granted, it's on 1,300 acres of private land, and people should be able to do what they want on their land - as long as it's good for the community. But these 600 new houses will have fiscal impacts. This new development is going to increase costs of public services. Your taxes will increease.

And why the rush? We have never seen such a crazy pace of subdivisions and developments being proposed. Never before have so many public hearings been proposed during one meeting. And the purpose of the consent agenda is for non-controversial matters. I find it hard to believe that a proposed Moratorium Ordinance is not controversial.

Let's slow down a little. Reflect on what is being proposed. And think about the repercussions. Growth is good, but are we ready for it? Can we afford the increased law-enforcement and other public services these new houses will require? Approval of this agenda is the same as spending future money we don't have.

I urge people to stand up and ask for restraint. Contact info for our County Commissioners is attached below. Please use it.

NOTE: The Commissioners' Meeting is at 6pm Monday night in the Superior Courtroom in Pittsboro.
