Will there ever be a change in the downtown Pittsboro area?

Pittsboro, NC - I still have not seen any changes in the downtown area of Pittsboro. Yes we have one new store a small Mexican Grocery Store. While that is good in some aspects I still do not see any other type of stores that will make the downtown area more attractive and thus make people that come here want to spend money. Perhaps stores like "Horizon" etc.

What brought my comments was that I was leaving the S&T Soda Shoppe last week and heard comments from a group of people that were visiting our area stating that "there was nothing to do, no shops" etc. They said that the brochure they had was very deceiving in that it had more stores then there actually were.

I proceeded to ask them what do you think of the downtown area. They mentioned that the Apex/Cary downtown area is much more appealing and cleaner with more things to do and that the only thing that they liked was the soda shop but their trip here was a waste of time and gas.

Do I want to hear this about our town? Certainly not. Why I have even picked up litter that was thrown on the ground because I am tired of seeing it. Sidewalks are dirty. The Lowe's store in the front is dirty. What can we do?

Does the mayor have any plans for the downtown area. Why even the trees need a good sprucing up. The mulch around the trees are terrible and there are plenty of weeds also. How about some flowers around the courthouse? What about a beautification committee?

We need something. We voted our officials in. Now what is their game plan? Pray tell because I still have not seen any change.
