Two Pittsboro teens arrested for attempted arson, breaking and entering at school

Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office arrested two teenagers Wednesday in connection with a breaking and entering and arson that occurred at Perry Harrison School in Northern Chatham County. Deputy Rodney West responded to the scene and began investigating the case.

The investigation revealed that someone broke into several classrooms and caused more than $1,600 worth of damage to the school, including attempting to set a classroom on fire. Suspects also ate food while inside the school.

Chatham County Investigators began working the case and a suspect was identified with cameras located in the school. The investigation identified Hunter Lilly, 18, of 1924 River Road Pittsboro and John Barringer, 17, of 353 Heartwood Drive, Pittsboro. Barringer attended Sage Academy in Siler City, NC.

Investigators are attempting to compare this case with other similar cases in the area.

Both subjects were charged with Felonious Burning of a School House, Felonious Burning of Personal Property, 7 counts of Felonious Breaking and or Entering , Felonious Larceny, Possession of Stolen Property . Barringer was jailed under a $10,000.00 secured bond and Lilly was jailed under a $25,000.00 secured bond. Both are scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on June 28.
