Chatham County deputies responded to Little Indian Creek Road on Saturday to investigate an apparent homicide. A relative discovered the bodies of the Richard and Karen Brown around 9:30 a.m. Saturday at their house on Little Indian Creek Road near Carbonton. Both were husband and wife and appeared to have been shot to death some time last week.
Chatham Investigators along with agents and crime technicians from the State Bureau of Investigation were called and currently are investigating the case. It is believed that the bodies were not discovered for several days before they were found by a relative of one of the victims.
Neighbors stated that the couple was very private people and both were self employed. Detectives found a large indoor marijuana growing operation inside the home and based upon evidence found at the scene believe robbery to be the motive in the case.
Both bodies were transported to the State Medical Examiners Office in Chapel Hill for autopsy. The names are being withheld at this time until out of town family members can be notified. As soon as next of kin notification is complete more information may be released.
