Siler City man charged with statutory rape

Siler City, NC - A Siler City man was arrested on Thursday for six counts of statutory rape when he was accused of having sex with a 14-year-old child. Chatham County Deputies began working a runaway juvenile case last week when they received information that a 14 year old female voluntarily got into a car driven by Juan Escalona, 25, of 146 Crystal Lane, Siler City on September 8th.

Deputies located her in Asheboro nine days later after an anonymous person called the family and advised them that she was at the hospital in Asheboro. Asheboro Police Detectives began to investigate crimes that occurred in their city and determined that Escalona had sex with the child while she was with him. They obtained warrants for his arrest and Chatham County Deputy Jynnifer Harrell arrested Escalona at the Chatham County jail.

He was jailed last week for Felonious Second Degree Kidnapping, Felonious Restraint and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. He was jailed under an additional $200,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Randolph County District Court in Asheboro on October 17.
